Steve Buscemi subtly refines the prison drama in his second film, a rich character piece set in a ramshackle state penitentiary. Edward Furlong is a glum, drug-dealing, middle-class bad boy suddenly drop-kicked into a world in which his sneering defiance just makes him more attractive prey to hardened convicts. Willem Dafoe, a career felon who runs the prison’s contraband network, takes the kid under his wing and his protection. He’s obviously attracted to the pretty boy and that sexual tension buzzes throughout the film, but their friendship, which is much more complicated, becomes the center of the film.

There’s a kind of perverse marketing genius at work in this cheesy sci-fi hit from 1995 in which scientists create a half-human, half-alien woman named Sil (Natasha Henstridge) who’s capable of morphing from a slimy, tentacled creature into a blond babe with the body of a Playboy centerfold. This makes it easy for Sil to lure gullible guys who are only too willing to indulge her voracious mating urge, realizing too late that sex with Sil is anything but safe. As the body count rises, a handpicked team of specialists tracks the alien’s killing spree, but their diverse expertise is barely a match for the ever-morphing Sil. Borrowing elements of the Alien movies (including bizarre alien designs by Swiss artist H.R. Giger) and spicing them up with some tantalizing nudity, Species is a wet dream for creature-feature fans–kind of like watching a sci-fi vampire fantasy while browsing through the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. –Jeff Shannon

Which is not to say that this is just “Hitchcock Lite”; seminal Hitchcock critic Robin Wood (in his book Hitchcock’s Films Revisited) makes an airtight case for this glossy MGM production as one of The Master’s “unbroken series of masterpieces from Vertigo to Marnie.” It’s a classic Hitchcock Wrong Man scenario: Grant is Roger O. Thornhill (initials ROT), an advertising executive who is mistaken by enemy spies for a U.S. undercover agent named George Kaplan. Convinced these sinister fellows (James Mason as the boss, and Martin Landau as his henchman) are trying to kill him, Roger flees and meets a sexy Stranger on a Train (Eva Marie Saint), with whom he engages in one of the longest, most convolutedly choreographed kisses in screen history. And, of course, there are the famous set pieces: the stabbing at the United Nations, the crop-duster plane attack in the cornfield (where a pedestrian has no place to hide), and the cliffhanger finale atop the stone faces of Mount Rushmore. Wow! I really loved the movie Marie Osmond’s Merry Christmas. The movie is absolutely stunning with top-notch graphics and visuals while Marie Osmond deliver some award-winning performances in this movie.
I also think Kirk Cameron was great! The visuals and graphics make for some very realistic on screen special-effects but that is the beauty of the movie.When the movie wants to be funny it is funny, the same is true for when the movie needs to deliver its scary aspects.
